Got my tickets for Friday @ The Arena Grand... Plenty of places having advanced screenings starting tonight @ midnight.
Man I hope Singer pulls this off. The reviews up to this point have not been too favorable.

I'm picking up my tickets for the 7:00 showing on Wed night at the AG. Will probably be catching it again at the Rave Friday night after hockey (even if it's not that good). Don't forget that the new Spiderman 3 trailer is attached to the movie and it should be pretty sweet.

This thought crossed my mind; however, I'll take the guaranteed seats @ Arena Grand seats over standing in line any day. Are there any differences to the film besides it being thrown up on a three-story screen? I remember some years ago that we went to see Pearl Harbor on the IMAX and it only took up half of the screen.

imax is a 4X3 frame. if they dont crop it, it will only be part of the screen. if it fills up the whole screen, it's been cropped

That's what I seem to remember from Pearl Harbor. They left it in its OAR; but, they just window-boxed it on the IMAX screen. I think it was a marketing ploy to get some extra butts in seats and was wondering if this was the same tactic for Supes.

ahh...never thought about that. It's probably not much bigger than a normal screen then.

Did not know some of these facts, i do seem to remember some of the speakers were also behind the screen. Would be interested if somebody would do a comparison between regular theater vs. IMAX theater. I think i will pay extra, please dont burst my bubble anymore...

I believe the front three channels are behind the screen in most normal theaters as well, at least the center channel. The Imax may still have a larger sound system, but it's also got a much bigger room to fill so that probably negates most of that.

imax i belive is an 18 channel sound system if i remember correctly.
even if it is better, the movie i doubt is masterd in anything higher than SDDS which is an 8 channel system. in fact the conversion to imax may affect the sound greatly because of this

I was reading that the imax version was in 3D? I have never seen an IMAX movie in 3D, might be interesting...

The IMAX version of Superman Returns is partially in 3D. The film wasn't shot in 3D but instead they're using a technique (developed by IMAX) that takes a 2D image and transforms it into 3D. I imagine it's some motion adaptive program in order to pull out the 3D image. Because of it's long time to process they only did 20 minutes of the movie in 3D. So you watch the movie like you normally would and during key moment the audience is instructed by a green symbol to put on their glasses. I'm thinking about trying to see the movie for the first time over at Easton and see how it looks. Probably wont be until after the 4th though.
