World Cup not in HD yesterday 6/25

Anyone else tune in to the World Cup on ABC yesterday to see it in standard definition? I'm not a big soccer fan but I like to have it on in the background as I do other stuff around the house. It's either soccer, baseball or golf this time of year. All 3 make me want to take a nap.:D

Did ABC just decide to not air the game in HD or was this another WSYX/Sinclair screw up?

It was our local Sinclair geniuses. After numerous calls to the station yesterday, they finally said they weren't getting the signal in high-def from ABC, which isn't true because other markets were getting the game in high-def. So if they didn't get here, it was their fault, not the network's.

No surprise.

I keep picturing a chimp at some high-tech (maybe?) console at Sinclair playing with his toes instead of flipping the HD switch. I guess it might be a little more complex than that but the other stations seem to manage just fine.

And they want money from Time-Warner for this?

I didn't get up until halftime. I thought that their HD signal went out, and started broadcasting in SD on the digital channel.

I thought it was something weird since ESPN kept advetising it on their ticker as on ABCHD. Then when I saw the guy interview the dutch fans with the abchd microphone, and knew something was up. by the time beckham scored, I found the cavaliers february post with the 614-481-6666 station #.

I should have called then, but I didn't. I was reading the posts here, but If i had called, i didn't know what to say or who to direct my call to. I figured on a sunday morning i would either get the runaround, or some kind of "we're working on it" stock answer.

They better not do this as the games get near the championship... I expect that there will be at least 2 ABC HD games with the holiday weekend coming up.

I was miffed and ended up watching the game in Spanish as they are generally more colorful than ABC/ESPN, and better looking chicks.

Also of note: Channel 6 did not broadcast first game of triple header two Sundays ago and opted to show chruch shows.

PS: Just once, I would love to see someone get thrown through the Spanish announce table at a futbol match!

They showed it at 2am that monday on 28, probably in sd. stupid sinclair.

This saturday at 10:30am Eng vs Portugal.

July 9 at 2pm for the championship game.

But knowing abc and sinclair, they'll probably cut back to the scheduled programming of "gimme the mike columbus" instead of showing the conclusion of an overtime shootout like today's dutch loss. It'd be like Heidi all over again; (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidi_Game) but, I doubt sinclair would even care.

I'd like to think that the mating between ABC/Fox and sinclair has produced some of the dumbest babies ever, wsyx and wtte.

Well, I saw an ad during Suday's game saying the game is on ABC. but ESPN.com says the game is on ESPN. I go by the website

cmon guys, we all need to call when this happens. just look in the phone book for wsyx newscenter. don't call the main number, they don't take calls. pester the heck out of the newscenter people - tell them to make engineering do their job and get the show on in hd. keep calling until they do it. what are they going to do - get mad? who cares? let them get mad. they've basically told me to f*** off before, i didn't care - i called them back 5 minutes later. pestering them does work. oh, and if they say there's nobody there from engineering, let them know that you're going to contact the fcc since all stations are required to have an engineer onsite while broadcasting (true) and send an email to info@fcc.gov and let them know the day and time that the station said they had no engineer onsite while broadcasting. they only way to get these morons to do anything is to bug the heck out of them each time the mess up.

Was the final shown in HD?

I was happy that the 2 semi-final games were on ESPN, since I can watch that in HD.

I watched the final in SD because I had the choice between SD and nothing.

I wonder when there will be enough HD viewers that TWC and Sinclair will have to reach some agreement.
