I am looking at options to be able to switch antennas before the preamp. I am looking at coax relays from Omron that are relatively inexpensive that have the necessary bandwidth, isolation, and insertion loss. What concerns me is that the contacts are aluminum clad copper. I think ordinarily when working with really low signal levels the contacts are gold plated. Does anybody visiting here have the knowledge to say whether or not the aluminum contacts are sufficient?
I know a rotor (I have one already) would ordinarily be enough but I like experimenting and the idea of no rotor, simple and quick switching sounds appealing. I can make the eqivalent of a 4228 easily enough since I have one already and I would just point them in different directions. At my location I can get Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo fairly well. I'll be back...
