100" HDTV Projection?

I was looking thru the hhgregg advertisement today and saw a Toshiba 72" DLP 1080P HDTV Projection Widescreen which got me to thinking. Does anyone know if there will ever be a 100" rear projection set? I think I have seen a Samsung at 82", but I am just wondering if the manufactures will be able to get up to the 100" or bigger sets. In a few years I am going to put in a 110" screen in the basement with the front projector, but if someone came out with a rear projector at that size I would have to think about it. Just looking for inputs and stuff.

It's possible to build one but not profitable for a manufacturer. Someone might do it just to be the only one to claim it. The price for a good quality large RPTV like that puts it to the front projection level. You don't get any thinner of a TV than a few millimeters for a screen. Mitsubishi are made a tripple LCOS 83" screen that retailed for about $21k. You can get a much better front projector system for that kind of money. Get the 10k projector that everyone loves from Sony. The bulb in that Mitsubishi also was likely to burn out after 18months. At $300 a piece that gets a bit much.

I just wonder if its just a matter of time. I remember when 27" sets were huge to me and a 32" oh my god! I laugh when I see a 27" now. Then the first big screen TVs that were 4:3 ratio before HDTV. I guess I am showing my age. Lets put it this way, I remember the first color set in the neighborhood as very young child!

Well I stand corrected. Not quite the standard RPTV but at least it meets the 100" requirement along with being rear projection based. Only $20k so it's not to expensive.

if you are looking for a crt rptv i belive the largest was the old 83 inch in the 4x3 standard and 73 inch in 16x9
