View Full Version : TW DVR - software upgrade

I just noticed a few different features on my DVR from TW. Mostly minor stuff but some annoying. I'm not a big fan of a new screen that pops up after I've told it to delete a recording I just watched that asks if I truely want to erase the program. Also the searching by title screen has changed a little bit.
The the real problem I've been having is the unit just plain acting up. A lot of the time it doesn't record live tv so I can't pause or rewind at all. When I try it just goes to a grey screen and stays there. If I watch a recording and then come back the screen is usually grey and I have to change channels in order to get something to show up again.
I had no issues with the previous software. Anyone seeing the same thing?

I noticed the change in deletes and just tried the pause/rewind live and it seems to work fine. Have not noticed any other issues (yet).

I am also annoyed by the secondary "are you sure you want to delete this" message and I'm also having another issue after the latest firmware push: about every other time I power up the box, it just shows a black screen and doesn't let me change channels, but I can hear the audio. If I just turn off the box and turn it back on, it works fine. Any ideas? I haven't tried a soft or hard reboot yet, but I just may to see if it will fix the issue.

My hard reboot (unplugging) seems to have worked out the kinks. I have all these new features but at least I've got my timeshifting back.

Yeah, on May 10th I noticed the TW HD DVR (SA 8300HD) loading new firmware on mine. It wasn't a standard reboot since it was definately downloading something that took a few minutes and then rebooted.
I did notice when you reboot the box it says 2006 Aptiv Digital Inc. which is definately different (I am very familiar with the main boot screen since I have had to reboot it so many times).
Unfortunately whatever they did is causing me some grief. I get a snowy picture which seems to mean that the box is out of sync with the TV (an HDMI thing?). I get it when I switch inputs on my Sony SXRD HDTV which was connected to the box via HDMI. For example if I switch from the cable box to my XBOX 360 and back I get the snow picture. I have to do a hard reboot of the cable box (hold the Power Button for a few seconds until you see the word "boot".)
It was such a pain in the ass I decided to go back to component cable for now.
A friend of mine found out from TW that the new firmware turned on HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection). He had 2 HD LCD panels that ONLY SUPPORT DVI that don't support HDCP and now they don't work.

I noticed similar problems with deleting shows. I also noticed that I can't delete stuff in my list of upcoming recordings. I have some stuff overlapping yesterday and today and am stuck with the priority I set up originally. That one is causing a real problem.
I have also seem some flaky behavior when viewing a previously recorded program and trying to rewind. It doesn't seem to work every time, and when it does, it seems to have a small delay before doing it.

half~ could you be very specific to what you are trying to do and what is not happening? I get the general jist of what the problem is, but if you can indicate what is scheduled and what you are trying to remove, I'd like to see if I can duplicate the problem as well.
thx

I know this is a little off topic, but TheCableGuy, did this software upgrade enable the SATA port on the back of the 8300HD DVR? Or has anyone tried this to see?

Since that one day, everything has been working OK. Now when I try to cancel something that is scheduled, it changes to a "No Record" line item and it works perfectly.

I'm still having problems with the screen not showing anything when the box is turned on. It works intermittantly, and sometimes it works after switching to an analog channel (2 thru 70-something), but sometimes a soft reboot is required to get the screen to show anything. I'm using the HDMI output, so that's apparently where the problem lies.
