Speed Increases to Road Runner Standard and other HSD services

Customers / Services / Areas Impacted:
All Mid-Ohio Division residential high speed data customers.

Overview:
Beginning May 17, Standard HSD customers will be automatically upgraded to speeds of 10 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload at no additional charge (from 7 Mbps download and 512 kbps upload.) In Ohio we will also be increasing the upload speed of Road Runner Turbo from 768 kbps to 1 Mbps. These changes will give us uniform speeds across most of the Midwest Region.

Timing:
The new HSD increased speeds will be available beginning May 17, 2011. In order to experience the new speeds, current customers will need to re-boot their modems. TWC will send customers an email beginning the week of May 23 promoting the speed increase and explaining how to reboot their modem.
Customers who need to to swap out their modem to receive higher speeds will be notified by postcard this week.

Customer Impact and Communications:
Existing customers will not experience the new speeds until their modem is rebooted. For existing customers, a forced reboot will occur during roughly the next couple of weeks before marketing tactics begin that promote the speed increase.
A small number of customers have modems that won’t support 10Mbps. These customers will be notified via postcard that they will need to swap out their modem to enjoy the higher speed.
All new customers will experience the increased speeds immediately upon installation.

Thanks for the heads up.

I think this is the first time I've seen a definitive list of the different service levels and their specs. TWC seems to avoid making that info easy to find.

I tested last night with speedtest.net and still had 512K upload. Just restarted my cable modem and now get .97mbps. I used to get 12mbps down and with this test only get 10mbps down.

Good to see standard service upload speeds finally becoming competitive in our area. 512kbps upload was pathetic.

I just tried rebooting my modem. No change to download speed (6.88Mbps), but the upload speed is now faster (.96Mbps). Looks like I may have to trade in my modem to get 10Mbps -- this one is ancient (Surfboard SB3100).

My SB4100 is the same one I've had since earth cooled. Think I got it over 10 years ago. Copyright page shows C1997-2000. help page shows:

Software Version: SB4100-1.4.9.9-SCM02-NOSH
Hardware Version: 0
MIB Version: II
GUI Version: 1.0
VxWorks Version: 5.3

FYI, you can get to the status page by going to http://192.168.100.1

Yes, your SB3100 is limited to 10Mbps http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB3100/downloads/SB3100_Data_Sheet.pdf

Got the postcard inviting me to trade in my modem this week. They gave me a Cisco 2100. I like the smaller size vrs my old SB3100.

Speed tests are misleading because it starts out in the 25-30 Mbps range then drops to the expected 10 Mbps level. I guess I'm seeing a demonstration of Turbo boost. This will definitely improve my next 2 gig download of Garmin maps.

Did Insight RR match this?

I got an email from Insight last night telling me my upload speed had increased to 1 Mbps. I had to reset my modem to get the higher speed, even though the e-mail said I didn't need to do anything.
