I picked up a pair of Pioneer HPM-500 speakers at auction for $20. They're condition is near new. But as to be expected the subs need new foam.

Stereo Lab Service is the only place I can find that offers speaker repair or maybe the refoam kits to try it myself. Refoam kits online will run about $30. I'm holding off on the online order till I've had a chance to talk to Stereo Lab Service.

I'm not even sure the speakers are worth it. But if it doesn't cost to much to get them fixed I'm willing to give them a shot. I'm open to ideas if anybody has any. The link is to pics I found of the exact speakers. On mine the cones are perfect.

I have a Take Classic 5.1 set. My plan if these work is to use them for fronts and move the two Takes to the back for 7.1. David

(update) Got the day off. Stereo Lab Service didn't have refoam kits for sale. But they would do it for $40 per speaker.Thought that was not a bad price. So took the subs out and took them in. Should be about 7 days.

Whatever happened to Stereo Lab? I still remember the jingle ... "Stereo Lab ... taking the time to do it right ...Stereo Lab!"

Okay I picked up the speakers today. They look really good almost like they came from the factory. And they sound nice too. So i have $125 in the pair. Maybe I could have found a cheaper set on craiglist. But I'm happy with them. Now when my speaker wire gets here I can hook up the Takes in the back and I'm set for 7.1.
