I have a WOW Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR box with an internal hard drive of 160 GB. I just expanded it with a 7200 RPM Western Digital Sata Hard Drive placed in a NexStar Enclosure with eSata and USB 2.0 connections, using an eSata cord to connect the enclosure to the DVR box. The hookup went fine, with the DVR recognizing and formatting the new hard drive, but when I play back shows recorded onto the external hard drive (as I know they are, due to the internal hard drive being almost full), I get a lot of freezes and hiccups which I did not get when shows recorded on the DVR's internal hard drive. The web has some reports of this, but no fixes (at least none that I've seen). If anyone knows of any fixes I would be grateful.

Some drives just don't play well with the 8300HD. When they don't, they tend to glitch and pixelate. You didn't mention which IPG software your box has, but here are links to databases showing the experiences others have had with different drives.
SA8300HD eSATA Compatibility Database (SARA) (http://baseportal.com/cgi-bin/baseportal.pl?htx=/xnappo/main)

Thanks for the tip. I have SARA software and thus checked on that link from your post. Most of the comments I read concern whether the external HD was recognized and formatted, but I didn't see anything (yet - I have more to read) where, as in my case, the HD was recognized and formatted but then playback is buggy.
