I read that Sinclair has signed an agreement to broadcast theCoolTV network as a digital sub-channel on 34 of the 35 stations that it owns and that it will roll out in the next 60-90 days. Does anyone know about this? I'm assuming that we are not the station not getting it because Rabbitears.com has posted that it will be a sub-channel on WTTE. I was intrigued by the thought of this since it is sort of difficult to find a real music video on any of the 20 whatever channels that Viacom has on Time Warner. theCoolTv network launched in 2009 (not to be confused with cooltv, which went off the air shortly before that) and features videos, but is supposed to be tailored to each individual market.
Here is a link, looks like we have it in Columbus. Any idea when it starts?

I shall wait and see when 28.2 gets turn on again.
Cool TV is suppose to send the station some equipment for the channel, when it arrives and is working it will be on 28.2 very shortly there after.
I heard this past week that the equipment that Cool TV is sending is to arrive sometime mid-June.
I heard this past week that the equipment that Cool TV is sending is to arrive sometime mid-June.
None of the equipment from CoolTV has arrived yet, have no updated information.:dunno:
Just got off the phone to David Hempe at Cool TV---they are supposedly sending the server equipment this week to stations, and that the channel should be on the air by July 21 here in Columbus. He told me they were delayed debuting on some stations due to the network's participation in an event in Milwaukie.
Still no .2 network-----Guardian has missed yet another deadline period to put the station on the air.....this deadline was going to be in the April to June range, and of course, it's July 7th....doubt if we see this one EVER go on the air.

That the .2 Network does indeed appear dead begs the question - Did not the city of Columbus give the Guardian folks an economic development grant worth $20,000 and a 5 year tax abatement and wasn't the state going to maybe give them over a million dollars as well? Do they have to pay that back? Because so far, the city of Columbus could have given me an economic development grant and I could have set it on fire in my driveway and we'd have the same net result (sorry I know this is the wtte thread and this is a tad off subject)
Great news about the cooltv network, by the way.
Yep, the city gave them grants to get this on air and for them to create jobs....plus they have 15 million for selling 51 to TBN...so wonder what have they waiting on?
OK back ON topic....I am looking forward to Cool TV coming on too. Hopefully it won't go defunct like the other muisc channel that was on 28.2 originally.
Just got word today that we will be receiving our Coot TV box of equipment sometime in the beginning of August .
Well thats why it's not on the air today.....I guess that back in February, the news was that it was supposed to be on within 60 to 90 days. But if it truly does happen in early August, that will work------
FYI Received word that the box is to arrive August 20th. I am not going to hold my breath though, I don't want to turn blue. I also remember a date of June 15th as well. The 20th is a Friday, Fridays and Mondays are always nuts and we can never get anything planned completed on either of those days.
OK I am glad that I did not hold my breath, no boxes of equipment have shown up yet and no update on delivery :(

I starting to think theCoolTV Columbus will become the next .2 network
Wonder if any of the other Sinclair stations have started to broadcast the station? I can't understand (with all of the stations that Sinclair owns that this channel will be on) why the Cool Tv folks aren't shipping the boxes like mad to get themselves on the air?

Still not on the air yet in Cincinnati (64.2) or Dayton (22.2) either.
A few months ago, they must have been testing in Cincy as 33.2 came up on my TV (their physical channel #) but with no video.

TheCoolTV is broadcasting on some LPTV stations. I don't think it will be the next .2 Network. BTW since GTN is going to broadcast on 23.2 in September. According to the wiki page that GTN suppose to become .2 Network. It might happen.

What is the latest on this channel.
I'd like to know that info too...Rick, hope you have an answer for this...they have missed yet another deadline....why are all these channels telling folks they will be on the air by a certain date, and then that date comes and goes and no channel?
I DO have news about the Guardian people. Called Dave over at GTN an hour ago, and he says .2 network is "on hold" and that the channel 23 frequency may go digital in the next two to three months...not sure why willcall was given the mid September information for GTN to be going digital.......
Have not heard of another delivery date for Cool TV equipment for WTTE. Even if I had a date I hate to share it anymore because not a one of them thus far has been correct. We have the MPEG encoder in place, connected to the mux and the wires run to where the equipment is suppose to go in the rack, so once it is here we should be all ready to go.

Rick, you might be able to confirm this.
A post on facebook on CoolTV page said WSTR In Cincinnati and WUXP In Nashville (both Sinclar Stations) has finally got thecoolTV up and running.
My guess is they have finally sent the box to you guys? I 'm hoping I'm right on this.

Too bad tropo season is over. I am able to tune WSTR every now and then on my DTV box here in East Columbus.

It is running on WSTR here in Cincy, and it sounds great so far. A really good mix of music, limited commercials. Similar to when The Tube was on air.
I wish it would be in at least widescreen 480p, but that's just wishful thinking. (It's in 4:3 480i, Dolby 2.0, but it still looks good and the audio is great)
I'm curious how the station will be locally-programmed (http://www.thecooltv.com/local-scene.php), and if when this does happen, if it will be different on WKEF in Dayton and WTTE.

I'm curious why, in this day of computers and internet, you need this special box to get this network going. What's so special about this box that can't be done with a PC or a Workstation of some kind?
Sorry to say but the Cool TV Box for WTTE has still not arrived. We have all the wiring in place to get it on when it does though.

The Box is how the network delivers the content to our facility to encode and transmit. Don't know if I can say much more about it. But I have seen the one for WDKY for Lexington, KY and I'm very certain that I can't just go to Best Buy and purchase one.

I figured you needed something heavy-duty and broadcast quality for what you're doing, but my point is why is it taking so long to manufacture these things and get them to you? And if it takes this long to get you a box in the first place, what happens when one of these things gets fried? Do you just go off the air for 12 months until a replacement box arrives? :) Doesn't seem like a good way to run a network.
From what I gathered they (Cool TV) ordered 50 plus of these customized boxes for their network all at once. The company that builds them is a small specialized company that probably normally builds 10 or so of these systems a month, so I think they (the manufacturer) are probably kind of overwhelmed with Cool TV putting such a big order in all at once. I just don't get the delivery schedule, you would think the larger television markets would get it first then the smaller ones but it seems to be the reverse. I am hoping that means that they will have all of the bugs worked out when the box arrives here in Columbus. (Now that is a strange thought, engineers are normally pessimists, the glass is half empty and here I am hoping that it is half full). A friend of mine has several LP stations in Oregon and uses equipment from the same manufacturing company for 6 plus years and he tells me the company is very quality oriented and fast to respond when there are issues with their hardware, firmware and software.
On the online version of Broadcasting and Cable that I get sent to my email, there is an article where the LIN owned stations will be getting Cool TV for their channels.

It is possible that CoolTV want to get their boxes up and running on the smaller markets. If the network sent their boxes to mid size to large and they start to have issues it will not help CoolTV to expand. I'm guessing that CoolTV don't end up like The Tube.
I think things will get really Cool sometime very soon this week!!!

If something cool happens this week, will there be some sort of test pattern for example when WBNS DT was setting up Doppler 10 on WBNS DT2?

Is cable going to have it right away, or is there going to be some lag time between getting it on the air and cable assigning a channel?

I left hopping mad tonght, the box was working fine Tuesday now it's not; uururrggguhhh.
Cable? I'm not certain what is going on with cable and carraige of Cool TV, it will be in the transport stream they receive from us though.
Rick I know we are all chomping at the bit for CoolTV to come on------hope the "decoding box" issue can get rectified and you folks at 28 can have the channel up and running soon.

Rick, the CoolTv channel's video and audio quality are coming in top notch here in Reynoldsburg----I know it was frustrating, but all good things are worth the wait. Thank you for keeping us all updated over the past few weeks/months.
NOW.........will 6 or 28 be getting Tribune's new Antenna TV channel on January 1st?...................

Leen watching since it signed on at around 1:30pmEDT Today. I LOVE IT!:ecstatic::ecstatic: :D:D Sounds great and looks great on the Southside of Columbus. Looks likes WTTE (FOX 28 and The Cool TV) is my new go-to channel.

Thank you, but there were a lot of people working together to get this going from coast-to-coast. We all hope you really like it and enjoy watching!!!
The picture quality is a result of the new HD/SD encoders we put on line about a month ago which made a dynamic improvement in our HD picture (that was what I was hinting about at the begining of August). Been very happy with the improvements. There are some old videos that have a lot of noise or flim grain that I have noticed stresses the SD encoder out, but not that notiable, the ability to see depends on the display device.
On the Tribune product I don't know or heard anything.

Rick,
Thank you for all of your work to get this channel up and running. As MTV devolved into a channel that basically just glorifies stupid people fighting and fornicating I yearned for a channel exactly like this, you know, that actually would show music videos at times other than 3-6 AM. Hopefully it will stick around.

Like I mentioned before it's not all me, there are a lot of people that worked together to make this happen. Other engineers at the station installed the equipment, ran the cables and connected it up, the folks at Cool TV that configured it, the folks a corporate that purchased the encoders and hardware the graphic guys that made the IDs, and on and on....

Rick,
Many thanks to all of you who worked so hard to get CoolTV up and working on 28.2 I don't have Cable or Sat. I depend on OTA Broadcast for my TV reception and this is a welcome addition to my channel lineup. Just wanted to let you know that it's perfect in Lancaster (Picture and Sound) and that's with an ancient small directional rooftop antenna. Thanks again. You guys are soooo awesome!!!! :D
I don't think twc will carry cool tv. They don't carry tthe weather on 10-2 either. I tnink it would conflict with there contracts on weather and mtv channels, besides they would have to raise the cable rates. LOL KCJ

Either something is wrong with your box, or you need to rescan. If it's an over-the-air channel, they generally have to have it on their cable system. WOW does carry 10-2.

I've just viewed this post and checked to see if 28.2 comes in for me- also in Lancaster. And it's here- LOUD AND CLEAR!
When I tune it directly from the keypad, thru my panasonic dvd recorder with digital tuning, it says CHANNEL NOT AVAILABLE, but still tunes right in. Afraid to do a re-scan to get it in my permanent line-up- as right now (weather-related?) channels 34.1-2-3 are not coming in. But will see what's going on tomorrow during daylight.
I also have a primitive UHF antenna from the 60s on an old fan stand in my upstairs by the north facing window.
A bit of a thrill... have long been missing Mtv and MUCH MUSIC from Canada since they both went screwy in the late 90s. This will be my new digital wallpaper- like in the golden days- every spare minute I'm not watching another show.

According to thecooltv website channel listing they do list TWC and Insight. I take a look at Antenna TV and it does look promising. I do hope that WTTE/WSYX can carve out another 2.5 MBIT of one of their digital signal.

I am receiving inconsistent audio levels on theCoolTv on 28.2 in Lancaster and I thought I'd check to see if anyone else is experiencing the same problems. I have my TV running through a rather large A/V system and I always have the system on when I'm watching TV. There doesn't seem to be a problem on any other channel. Just 28.2 and there are two different scenarios. Sometimes the volume fluctuates wildly during a song and the other instance is loud commercials. I'll be watching 28.2 and a commercial will come on that's so much louder than the previous programming that it scares the crap out of me. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing on 28.2?
