I'm thinking about getting one of those $100 Western Digital WDTV boxes. The problem is that the only outputs on the thing are composite or HDMI.

I've got a Pioneer VSX 818v receiver and an older Mitsu RPTV. The Mitsubishi has S-video, composite, and component-in for HD inputs. The Pioneer has 2 HDMI inputs and an HDMI output, in addition to having a handful of component outputs, toslink, audio coax, etc.

I dug through the VSX manual and searched the web, but I can't seem to find out if the VSX can convert an HDMI-in to component-out. At the present time, I don't have any equipment that does HDMI-out, so I can't do a test to see if it works.

I seem to recall that a couple of other folks that post in this forum have the same (or similar) Pioneer VSX receiver.

QUESTION: Is anyone using their receiver to convert HDMI to component?

Thanks in advance for any replies...

I own a Pioneer VSX and unfortunately for you, it won't do what you want. It will go from any of the lower resolution inputs (compsite, s-video, component) to HDMI, but not the other way around. It will only go up, but not down. Sorry.

I do believe, though, if you search online that there are HDMI-component converters out there. I believe Monoprice.com sells them. I'm not sure how expensive they are.
