Just moved to Columbus from Knoxville, TN. Took a job up here after i graduated from UT. AFter i got here, i took the HD "plunge" and bought a 30" widescreen HD Sony, a Samsung up convert DVD player, and a MS Xbox 360. I brought along a Sony 5.1 surround sound system. At work the biggest complaint i heard about HD was that none of the cable services carried the OSU games(ABC) in HD. After getting my TW cable and DVR installed, sure enough, no ABD HD. My TV doesnt have a built in reciever, so i started looking into boxes that would recieve OTA transmissions. Luckily, a guy i work with had 4 VOOM boxes he was left with when they went under, and he let me have one. I just have a normal, indoor, non-powered RCA VHF/UHF antenna.... i got it a while ago at wal-mart for like 20 bucks. I live in Dublin off of Sawmill Road...this antenna picks up that stations pretty good, but i was wondering if anyone had some indoor-antenna suggestions. Im not going to break the bank on one, so im not going to spend more that 50 bucks on it, or just stick with the one i have. Thanks a lot, and great site!

Welcome to the site. I can't comment too much on antennas since I only get my HD from Time Warner. I remember hearing something about a good cheap antenna from Radio Shack but that's about all I remember.

What games do you play on the 360? There's a group of us here that seem to be online a lot.

AFrost, welcome to the forum and Columbus! You've stumbled onto the mess that is Sinclair (owners of WSYX and WTTE) and Time Warner. Search either of the station forums for more details about the problem.

As an aside, you'll find that even if you pick up ABC, you will not be seeing many Buckeye's games in HD. In fact, only two were broadcast last year; one against Penn State, a night game on ESPN; and the other against Indiana, also on ESPN, but blacked out locally due to the agreements between WBNS and ESPN+ (there is also a detailed thread on this fiasco as well).

Having said all of that, ABC does have some things certainly worth watching in HD (of course, you could always decide to boycott Sinclair stations like many members on this board have), and pulling the signal in from your location should be both easy and cost effective. First, do you own a home/condo, or are you renting an apartment? Suggestions for antenna choice will vary depending on your current setup.

I noticed you said the cheap antenna you're using now pulls in the station. If so, what are you looking to gain with a new antenna? Is there something you're current one doesn't do in particular that you woud like in a new one?
