View Full Version : Hiccups in CBS shows?

I posted on the DirecTV tech forums but finding someone local to respond is like looking for a needle in a haystack so I thought I would bring it here.
Every show I have recorded on CBS since Friday night has had a hiccup in the picture about 30-45 seconds into the recording, it lasts for about a second or two then the rest of the program plays fine.
I have recorded stuff on FOX during this same time frame and have had no problems, this appears to be either a WBNS issue, CBS issue or some problem from WBNS passing off the feed to DirecTV.
Can anyone confirm that this is an issue that those in the know are aware of, or could I be having a hardware problem with my HR-21?

Been happening to me too OTA (HR10-250).
Edit: Not on my HR10 OTA--D* HR21

I noticed it on Big Bang Theory last night. That's the first CBS recording I've watched that was recorded since Friday, so I figured it was just that recording.

I watched the Big Bang Theory last night and don't remember any kind of studder. I've already deleted it though so I can't go back and check. I've still got HIMYM to watch, is it on that show as well?

It has been on ever CBS recording for me since Friday. I don't watch OTA so everything I see is the DirecTV Local feed which is why I didn't know exactly what the problem could be.
I too deletd HIMYM as well as Big Bang but it happens in the first minute of the show before the playback timer hits the 1 minute mark, you'll know it when it happens.

Yes, for both shows it stuttered at the beginning--oh, and I just remembered that those shows record on my HR21 via DirecTV--not OTA  Might be a DirecTV thing if zelig didn't notice anything.
It just froze, sound dropped, and then picked up where it left off. Didn't the HRs get some sort of upgrade last week?

Just did it on my recording of NCIS tonight.
I think my HR21 got an update last week but this issue didn't crop up until Friday night and ONLY on 10/CBS/WBNS. FOX ABC and NBC are all fine.

I had the same issues with CBS Monday shows. I thought it was a glitch in my box, but sounds like it was a much wider issue. I have an HR20.

Can anyone confirm or deny this is happening OTA or with TW/Dish/Wow etc?

We watched NCIS OTA last night on our HR20-700, didn't notice any hiccup or stutter...

Can a mod or admin think of some way I (or they) could make a poll with different options to try and narrow this down before I call and lay the smack down on WBNS CBS or DirecTV?
As it stands now the majority of posters in here have this issue, and it has been an ongoing issue for me since Friday so I would like to know where to place the blame before I do such a thing.

I don't recall seeing it do it on Criminal Minds, but it did do it on the 11 O'clock news last night, so something is up and it may be a WBNS issue.
I've noticed some hiccups over DirecTV on non-CBS shows in the last few days. I was watching a couple of recorded shows - The Daily Show on Comedy Central HD, and one other show (can't remember which one, but not OTA or CBS). It happened in the first minute or so of the show, and it was the video equivalent of a CD skip...skipp...skippi...skipping.
I recently changed my 30 second slip button on the HR20 to work as a 30 second SKIP (like Tivos). I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I also read somewhere that there's been a recent update to the HR20 software. I'm pretty sure I got the update, since the annoying blue ring on the front was lit up a few days ago. I keep that turned off, and fervently believe that the engineer who designed that will have to look at it for eternity when he/she dies and goes to hell... ;^)

I finally got around to watching HIMYM this weekend. No hiccup in the first part of the show from what I could see. I rewatched the first two minutes just to make sure.
OTA -> HDHomeRun -> Vista Media Center w/ TV Pack -> Xbox360

I'm still having this problem and I don't know who to contact about it, either WBNS or DirecTV. My best guess and previous experiences on something where I don't know exactly the problem could be coming from ends up in all parties passing the buck and blaming it on each other.
It hasn't stopped doing it, but it doesn't do it all the time. I tuned to Jeopardy yesterday which is show I do not record and it did the glitching, I wanna say there was a show or two last week that didn't do it but the majority of them did.
rlw had some skipping issues, but this isn't what I experience. There is a slight skip but the screen will go black for just a quick second or two then come back on, It does skip over a part of the programming, but after this quick little hitch the rest of the show runs fine. I have had it happen on shows I am watching that were recorded, I have had it happen on shows I am watching live but it is always WBNS, never on FOX, ABC, NBC, or any of the networks like USA, History Channel etc etc.
How could I get in touch with someone at WBNS that would know or be responsible for such an issue to even report it to them, but I would imagine that after 2 weeks of this someone has to be aware of it.

It did it to me last night at the beginning of Big Bang Theory on DirecTV.

I had it happen on Monday night with recorded CBS shows (Big Bang) and with the local news live on my other bedroom receiver.

Still no thoughts on who to call or what to say about it to whom?
Like I said earlier, in the past if you call one or the other with an issue like this they will just pass the buck and blame it on the other.
I used the contact page on the WBNS website to send a note to engineering, now we will see what happens with that route and looking into contacting DirecTV once I hear from WBNS

Here is what I got from WBNS
Thanks for your note regarding the problem on DirecTV.
Trust me we are working diligently on this problem. It lies in Direct TV's collection hub and is out of our control.
Getting a response to get it repaired from DirecTV has been slow coming.
They are taking our signal into their system via an off-air receiver that is located at a location point in central Ohio. This receiver most likely has an issue but we have not been able to have it either reset or replaced yet, as it is not our equipment.
We will continue to work on this issue until it is repaired as it is very frustrating for us also.

I have a Dish VIP622 and watch CBS OTA. No hiccups for me. So I agree with WBNS that it's related to DirectTV somehow.
WCMH had an issue like this a year or two ago with Dish's receivers. Their engineers worked with Dish's to get it fixed.

From my e-mail to the engineers at WBNS I have had a couple of follow up conversations with other engineers. They said that DirecTV was supposed to have reset something today but I still had the glitches and I made them aware that the reset didn't work.

It's funny that I'm her looking for just this topic, though I'm not sure what I have is the same thing discussed here in May...
I live in Lancaster and get most OTR digital channels and good signal, too. (For the most part)
Since the official (c. 06-12) changeover, I've noticed Channel 10.1 has had "hiccups"- the picture and sound blanks out and the "no signal" screen comes on from the converter. This happens intermittently from every 30 seconds or so, to every minute or two. It doesn't appear this way on any other channel.
Granted, the weather conditions have been less than desirable (storms and clouds) pretty much ever since the digital changeover.
I've strained to think of anything else that has changed in my OTR TV system (nothing) or area.
Has anyone else experienced this???
