Hello,

I have a friend who owns a 2 year old TiVo Series2 dual-tuner recorder. She has "bare-cable" Time Warner (no set top box) in Lancaster. Her TV is a 12 year old NTSC Magnavox.

She told me that her TiVo is not recording programs she used to be able to record, and she thinks they're listed as HD.

I asked her if this has started recently, and if she was trying to record programs from WTTE-28, since they went all digital last week. She didn't know for sure (she's up there in years, and you gotta give her credit, she at least knows how to use her TiVo!).

So...

Is her Series2 incapable of recording HD programs off cable (even in SD mode)?
Is there a workaround for this?

I don't have a TiVo (I've got a DirecTV HR20), so I don't have much of an answer for her, and thought I'd call on the wisdom of the group.

The series 2 can only record analog content from an OTA antenna or from analog cable. So it appears she is connected via cable, not OTA, since both cannot be connected at the same time. I believe Time Warner may have eliminated some of their analog channels lately (non-OTA available channels only), but I'm really not sure. So maybe that is what happened. You'd have to find out the channel and check on Time Warner's web site to see if it is available in analog. If you look at the "Season Pass" for the show that is not recording, it will show the channel number it is trying to record.
