View Full Version : Sound Dropouts on 10TV HD

In the past several days, I've notice a lot more sound dropouts during programs on 10TV HD. Every few minutes, I lose a split-second of sound. There's been no picture problems.
I've noticed the problem just recently, and only while watching 10TV HD on my TWC 8300HD DVR (I have not been watching any 10TV HD programs via the OTA antenna on my Dish DVR lately).
Is anyone else experiencing this problem, and if so, how are you viewing 10TV HD (ie: OTA antenna, TWC, WOW, DirecTV, DishNetwork, or UVerse)?

Yeah, I noticed it a day or so ago while watching Letterman: very brief skips in the sound. It concerned me because it started to resemble problems I had some time ago with my external drive on the DVR. However, I noticed the same glitches on my bedroom TV which is hooked to the raw cable.

I've noticed it too on wbns using my vip622 OTA. They're easy to miss since they're so short.

Yep, same here via OTA.

I sent an email to the Operations and Engineering managers at 10TV asking them to confirm that they are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it.

I'm glad it wasn't just my imagination. I canceled Uverse after only a week because of their dropout issues. Now 10 is having issues too?

In all of my years of watching TV (almost 50) I have never experienced more technical issues.
Sound / picture synchronization
Video blocking
Audio drops
Maybe they should have finished the work prior to saying "ship it".
Yes, the GRAMMYS sound lousy with the audio drop-outs.

The Grammys are un-watchable with these sound issues
Doesn't anyone working at the station monitor the signal? The GRAMMYS in HD are not watchable.
If there ever was a reason to have 5.1 audio, this WAS it.

Yeah, the Grammy Awards had really bad dropouts. I should have recorded it on my DirecTV box too to see if had the same issues with their feed.
I'm going to send an e-mail to Frank Wilson today--I'm not sure if he monitors HDC anymore.

I noticed the same issue while trying to watch the Grammys. The problem occurred on the OTA feed through a Dish VIP622 and a direct OTA connection on another TV.

Yeah, we watched the first hour of the grammy's and had the dropouts approx every 5-10 secs. This was OTA on one of my vip622s.
Makes you wonder if stations really are ready the DTV switch. WCMHs signal totally stopped about a month ago during 'The Office'. Sound issues are far too frequent on WSYX (sometimes conversation [center channel?] will drop and all that I can hear is music).

Just confirming that I didn't receive a response today from 10TV. The email I sent last night included Frank, too. Have you heard anything back yet Scott?

The dropouts are even happening on Analog. Seems to only be on network programs and commercials, but not local commercials. Very annoying.
Pat Ingram @ Channel 10 didn't reply either.

Hey guys, sorry for the absence. Someone told me that I should take a look. Been a crazy year so far.
The Grammy's had a major problem on location. We called in to CBS Master Control in NYC and they were getting the same.
Haven't had a lot of complaints outside of the Grammy's. If you hear of something, drop me a line at frank.willson@10tv.com.
Please note the Two-L's my ancestors stuck me with. Might have been why I didn't get the original e-mails.
I'm also going to start a thread with our 2009 March Madness Plans.

Just going through the forum. Haven't been on for a while. Sorry I did not get your E-mail as I do respond to all. Some do get pulled by our Postini system into junk mail.
The audio dropout is a TOTAL CBS problem. IT deals with the new transmission system they are installing at all affiliates. In particular, the Dolby E stream is being disrupted in their software. We were the first to make CBS engineering aware of this. They were hard pressed to admit they had the issue, and have since uploaded new software a number of times.. We are going back to a 2.0 audio signal whenever it flares up. It has been bad enough at times to upset our Dolby Frame sync which then requires a full reboot to get back in sync.
I think they have it fixed at this point but we are being cautiously optomistic.
Best Regards
