Man, I've been married for so long that I have no idea where to go to party. I have an old buddy coming in town on business next week. Wants to head out for a beer or two or three on Wed night. He's staying in the Polaris area. He's single. I'd like to show him a bar that displays what Columbus has to offer. Any ideas? Looking for a place that wouldn't be too dead. Good happy hour crowd. Thanks.

I don't know what you're into but my wife and I most always go to the Classics Sports Pub at 3C and Maxtown on Fridays. Good crowd and if you're smokers, they have a heated enclosed back patio with tables and a big screen. The crowd ranges from my sons age (late 20s) to our age (guess). If you couldn't guess from the name, it's a sports bar with lots of 42" screens all around the bar.

Check out The Pub. It's a new English-style bar that just opened in the new area of the Polaris mall (near the Cheesecake Factory).

It's been so long since I have been up to the Polaris area. I didn't even know they had a Cheesecake factory there too  Sounds like I may need to head up there this weekend!

It's only been open for about 2 or 3 months now.

+1

It's been at least a year since I've ventured over there though. My wife tells me that it's really changed in that area.

Being from Powell, we're at Polaris all the time. I just got back from BJ's Brewpub in fact (which might be an idea to consider).
I'll second The Pub (http://www.tavernrestaurantgroup.com/pub_polaris.php), which is in the new open-air area of the mall. I like the place--we went there on opening day and loved it. Great that much of the food items like all of the condiments are imported. Our second time a few days later we found it was packed to beat all. Bonus: waitresses in kilts.
I have to give a thumbs down on Claddoaugh due to a bad experience with seriously badly microwaved food the last time I was there (hard rubber corned beef that was clearly delis sliced and not fresh=shame, shame on them). I wrote to them and never received a reply which was another strike (me being in the internet biz).
There's another bar/pub called Rude Dog that's set back on Sancus. A little younger crowd but good burgers and beer.
And no laughing, but I do like Hooters there, also on Sancus.

Thanks guys. The Pub sounds like a good place to start. We were just in that area last eating at Carrabbas (sp?) Yes, it changes constantly.

Well, The Pub was pretty cool. Packed for a Wed night. We couldn't find 2 seats together at the huge bar until a couple of guys got up to leave.
Great layout. Very friendly staff. Great food. Great beer. Lots of great beers available on tap. I would highly recommend it as a happy hour place or a place to meet friends anytime.
A little tough to find. It's behind the new Borders just off Lyra north of Polaris. Thanks for the great advice!

That's where my band is playing tonight. Never been there but have heard it's a good place to play with a good crowd.
