Greetings Group,

Tuning into WSXY 6.2 Saturday 11-01-08 this afternoon, I noticed they are showing syndicated programming from the "This" network instead of "MyTV."

Being as this is the 1st, I wonder if the change is permanent? I can't seem to google anything on a "This" network. Upcoming movie are: "Little Monsters", "She's Gotta Have It", "Clambake", "Terminator" and "Calendar Girl Murders."

There is a superimposed WSYX 6.2 superimposed at the top of the screen during station IDs. The WSYX website is still listing MyTV.

Wondering if anyone knew anything about this???

According to wikipedia wsyx dt6.2 is going to be MYtv during its primetime (so 8-10 PM), Funimation from 1-3 AM, and THIS TV at all other times.

I wonder if there is any chance that they'll put one of the three full time onto 28.2 since Sinclair owns both stations?

I didn't quite see those schedule durations from Wiki, but the 3 stations are mentioned.

I watch dt6.2 daily, so can safely say that THIS TV programming did not appear until this Saturday. If it is going to be on daily, that will sure be better than the usual array of infomercials on 28.1- especially on the weekend! Funny that there is no website to find the schedule for THIS TV.

I wonder if there is any chance that they'll put one of the three full time onto 28.2 since Sinclair owns both stations?

Is there indeed an active 28.2? Or is it going to be available in the future? I don't get 28.2, but do get 28.1.

In Lancaster, I can get 4.1, 4.2, 6.1, 6.2, 10.1, 28.1, 34.1-2-3 and 51.1. Should I be finding any more digital stations?

West of Lancaster (out by the bypass), I get all of those stations, too. I seem to recall that during March Madness, channel 10 broadcast games on 10.2, .3, and .4. I picked those up, as well.

I don't get the Chillicothe station (WWHO?), but that may be because my OTA antenna is pointed towards Columbus.

The info about channel 6.2 is a bit spread out. The footnote about MyTV being aired in primetime on 6.2 can be found here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_TV

The info about funimation can be found here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FUNimation_Channel

Channel 28.2 was the Tube until last year when it went off the air. I assume that given that they used to broadcast on this channel that they would be willing and able to again in the future.

Finally, Try this antenna

I made it and put it in my basement. It cost $8. I live in Powell and get channel 53.1 (Chilicothe CW) with a signal strength of 89 (out of 100) on my Sony TV signal strength meter. It is very directional (contrary to what the video claims) so you have to mess with it. But it easily beats anything for indoors or for less than $80 from what I've been able to tell. I can also get channels 16, 26, and 45 from Dayton (though not real well) on about 2 nights a week, which is pretty good for not only being indoors but also being in my basement (I was too lazy to run it up to the attic).

I'm glad that they're carrying This TV from MGM/Weigel Broadcasting. It is better than the countless showings of infomercials. Most of the movies are second tier but it is better than infomercials. Plus they are showing the little seen Future world movie this week.

If you go to the http://www.titantv.com/quickguide/quickguide.aspx Titan TV website and type in your local zip code then you will get a program guide for 6.2. It will list the This TV movies titles.

Here is the Wiki entry for This TV:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_TV

This one of the few sites that have detail info of the Digital OTA Sub channel Network.

Now coming up in December of 2008 the .2 Network should start broadcasting. It is owned by GTN. The same GTN that moved to Low Power TV23. There is supposed to be a digital broadcast tower for LPTV23 being built.

Here is some other Digital OTA Sub Channels Networks to look out for:

Retro Television Network broadcasting now http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro_Television_Network

The AccuWeather Channel broadcasting now
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_AccuWeather_Channel

Omni Broadcasting Network I did notice that it is on some digital sub channels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omni_Broadcasting_Network

.2 Network
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.2_Network

The Variety Channel broadcasting now
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variety_Television_Network

ION Network muticasting
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ION_Television

Note TBN does have other network feeds. I did notice that WSFJ have a D1 not a DT. It is possible that they might do muticasting or not, who knows.

There is other PBS digital sub channels like PBS World, ThinkBright TV.

Some, all, or none at all will be carry by the local TV stations. IMO Retro Television Network and Accuweather might come to the Columbus market. Since Weather Plus is ending its run this year.

I'm glad that they're carrying This TV from MGM/Weigel Broadcasting. It is better than the countless showings of infomercials. Most of the movies are second tier but it is better than infomercials.

They still haven't eliminated all the infomercials! Over-riding some Saturday and Sunday noon/ afternoon This TV movies to show them!

I presume infomercials must be more profitable and more viewed than any tv show or movie the local stations might provide??? All other local stations do this, too. Channel 4 is even showing one at 1am right after Saturday Night Live. Sat-Sunday afternoons is the WORST- with infomercials often on 4,6,10 and 28 at the same time!

There are still a few bugs to be worked out on the "shared" 6.2.

From 6pm til 10pm- ThisTV switches to MyTv- so instead of movies- we get Martha Stewart, Reno 911 and various programming at 8pm.

They don't seem to have the bugs out of their switching.

Several other times and now tonight, all during the Magic Awards Special (which was MyTv)... commercials from ThisTV kept being shown at inappropriate times (right in the middle of segments of the show!) and the switchover to the upcoming 10pm ThisTv movie, came RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the final magic performance!!! At about 9:54!!! All they did was show commercials for 6 minutes until the movie at 10pm.

>>>Most of the movies are second tier

As for a comment on ThisTv... Yes, many of the movies are little more than filler! Lifetime-like TV-movies from 15-20 years ago. That's not to say they don't have a few near top-tier (THE TERMINATOR, Elvis) in there, too.

I thought I saw several movies shown in widescreen (letterboxed on my standard TV)- yet they show the majority (even if widescreen) in FullScreen!
(Wondering how that plays out on a wide HD tv?)

Almost every movie is cut to make more time for ads and the end credits on many go beyond time compression- they ZOOM THEM ALONG at FAST SPEED- making any movement look ridiculous.

One highlight is that THIS shows a handful of good old TV shows in the wee hours (6am-8am) like THE OUTER LIMITS, THE PATTY DUKE SHOW and MR. ED.

I'm pretty sure they did away with the overnight anime...

My 2 Cents, Mark

Kudos to Sinclair for adding ThisTV to channel 6.2. ThisTV is also on WRGT 45.2 so I'm guessing it's a Sinclair thing. I also like the channel and the movies are watchable ... some of the movies are cheesy, but free movies without a premium channel are hard to find. I mean, how many times can a person watch Beverly Hills Cop, Dirty Harry or King Pin? The channel looks great on my non-HD 32" Panasonic set!

I hope this channel lasts ... Keep up the good work!

Since Weather Plus is ending its run this year.

That's right on December 1st! And glad to see it go. It's been pretty useless to me. There's going to be weather!
Anything extreme and the locals will all switch to constant weather anyway...

Titan TV listings don't seem to acknowledge any change yet. They haven't changed their listings after December 1st.

Any word on what will replace Weather Plus?. Hopefully something with more entertainment value.

Why Doesn't THIS TV Broadcast Movies in WIDESCREEN? Or do they???

I'm still just watching on a regular, old TV, with a digital converter. And I'm still sure I saw several widescreen films appear LETTERBOXED on THIS TV. But most are NOT!

I just don't understand... if this is the new age of HD and DIGITAL, meant for new digital WIDESCREEN TVS, why the MAJORITY of AVAILABLE, WIDESCREEN films ARE NOT broadcast in WIDESCREEN on THIS TV.

MANY are shown CROPPED, when they could be LETTERBOXED. Even the DVDS of many of the same title are LETTERBOXED. (For whatever reason, MANY of the MGM and UA films shown on THIS are also available on DVD)

One film I've been able to make a specific note on is THE FUGITIVE KIND- shown recently on THIS and TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and on TCM, it was LETTERBOXED! Same with THE MISFITS- LETTERBOXED on TCM and also on the MGM DVD!

So I'm wondering... To those that have new, DIgital, HD, widescreen TVs...

Do THIS TV films that are WIDESCREEN, appear as such on digital, widescreen TVS? Or are they still shown FULLSCREEN?

On a channel like 6.2 or 34.3, widescreen programming looks awful on a widescreen TV.

Those 480i channels are, for all practical purposes, inherently 4:3. So, to show a widescreen program the station letterboxes it. As a result, you see an image that's pillarboxed by the TV as usual (to fit the 4:3 image on your 16:9 screen) and letterboxed (to fit the 16:9 image within the 4:3 area).

IOW, it's shrunken both horizontally and vertically, with black bars on all four sides. So it's not merely "not HD," but it's actually lower resolution than standard TV, since they lose vertical resolution by transmitting black bars in the top and bottom parts of the image.

On my DirecTV HR-20's remote, I press the "Format" button repeatedly to zoom the image to full screen (on 34-3, mostly). It's pixellated, but it looks better to me than the letterboxed version. I watched Charlie Rose that way last night.

I'm glad 6.2 THIS is here, but can anybody tell me IF there is a way to find out ahead of time what they will broadcast?

I saw part of a film the other day and I can't identify it. It's driving me nuts. I think Michael Caine was in it. It was a cold war film, possibly soon after WWII. Music by Shostakovich was featured in it - the "Leningrad" symphony (No. 7). HELP?!

There are listings for 6.2 at http://www.wsyx6.com/sections/programming/grid.shtml as well as on sites such as http://tv.yahoo.com/

There's also the network's own Web site at http://www.this.tv/ but that won't always correspond to 6.2, which carries other stuff during some time slots.

(Also, IIRC "This" sometimes makes last-minute changes, e.g. to carry Karl Malden movies after he died last week, that are not reflected in program listings.)

I don't know the answer to your question, but you might try looking at the IMDB listing for Michael Caine (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000323/) to see if any of the titles sound like a possible match.
