Hey,
March Madness is coming up. So, will WBNS bring up all the sub-ch like last year? It was great last year watching all the different games.

I would rather they show one in HD than 4 in SD. Or they could show one in HD and one on channel 10 on cable like they do for weekday evening buckeyes games. I know alot of people like the 4 different games but i'd rather watch a quality picture.
Doesn't matter what we think though. If cable will multicast the four different channels that's what we're going to get.

Yes, they are going to multicast for the first two rounds:

I would also like to see an HD game on 10.1 and another game on 10. I would watch the HD game. It really doesn't matter for me that 10 multicasts the games, since I do have Directv March Madness. But, I do understand the benefits for those that do not - I just prefer watching a game in HD.

I like the multicasts in the early rounds, then HD in the later rounds.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel. I love to have as good as picture quality as I can get, but in the early rounds when there are always multiple games on its nice to be able to choose which one to watch. I have to keep up with my brackets!! :D

Oh speaking of brackets! Can we do one for the form members here or not? Have to have many bracket sheets all over the place, just to hope I get one right!

I'm checking into this now, I'll post something once we get it ready.

It's interesting to note that WBNS's link explains the multicast for digital cable only, not considering those who receive the signal OTA. I assume it will be OTA on 10-1, 10-2, 10-3, and 10-4, but it is still notable that BNS didn't even think to mention OTA in its multicast announcement

From yesterday's Dispatch
Channel 10 to multicast basketball
For the sixth year in a row, WBNS-TV (Channel 10) will use its high-definition signal to multicast selected games from the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
Multicasting allows Channel 10 to simultaneously broadcast as many as four games by separating the station’s highdefinition digital signal into four separate signals. Viewers with HDTV-compatible sets will find the games on HDTV channels 10.2 through 10.5. The number of multicasts will vary depending on the games being broadcast by CBS.
The multicasting will cover games next Friday through March 19 and March 23-26. Cable subscribers will find the multicast coverage on Insight digital channels 147 through 150, Time Warner digital channels 88 through 91 and WOW digital channels 111 through 114.

We've got some extra spots, so if anyone wants in shoot me a PM or e-mail. It's $5 per bracket which you can Paypal to me if you'd like.

The WBNS site now lists which games will be on each subchannel. Set your DVR accordingly.

Can someone confirm if WBNS has added the sub channels for OTA reception or is it still just 10-1 being advertised?
Reason I ask is that I have a RCA DTC-100 that I set up at work tonight and I want to be ready for tomorrow. So far, I just get 10-1. Pretty geeked out about this. Got the ant and the receiver totally hidden in my cube. Both my monitors have switchable VGA inputs so I can toggle back and forth on one of my monitors (keeps the boss in check). Sound runs through my PC line in and use my headphones off my keyboard. Small Ratshack ant (amp'd) that gets a 80+ signal for WBNS
Love this receiver! Cheap, can be used for Direct tv or analog cable (no QAM) and a VGA/RGB out (perfect for Computer monitors).
On a side note, I like what WBNS is doing. While I love my HD, the first/sec round games are IMO the best part of the tourney. Why pay for the package when CBS will give it to us for free. THe only HD games we will miss is friday's games in Detroit and Philly. I can live with that! Plus, WBNS will show one HD game for the sweet 16 and the other game in SD on a subchannel.
For the people who must have HD. I believe that columbus qualifies for Out of market for CBS on dishnetwork. SO you should be able to get either NY or LA CBS, which should show the HD feed. This way, you get the best of both worlds!!
****Correction*****
I may be confusing the O&O stipulation with NBC and not CBS

Thanks Scott. Do you have the 2nd round schedule? Will OSU/Georgetown be in HD?

Here's a link (http://www.10tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4624398) to the updated schedule page on WBNS's site, showing the multicast continuing through Sunday. Also, Dayton isn't one of the sites with HD equipment during the first weekend of coverage.

If my memory serves me correctly, doesn't WBNS keep the sub-channels during the week as well? I believe they route all scheduled broadcasts to 10.2 during the week. So, if you have season passes scheduled for OTA recordings, you may want to enure that you will not be recording a black screen.
