I emailed WWHO today and got a response in about 20 seconds. I have an email address of a guy in the Programming Department over there that's I've talked with before. Here's his response from my asking about HD:
WWHO’s Master Control moved from Columbus to Indianapolis during the Summer, rendering some of our HD switchers obsolete. We are awaiting some new equipment that will allow us to again broadcast in true HD, rather than just upconverting from Standard Definition. I have not been given a definite date when this will be in place, but I’ve been told they’re working on it!!!
Thanks for your patience.
A few minutes after I got that email I got a phone call from the guy working with WWHO. He used to work here in columbus but moved to indianapolis to do engineering there. He told me some of the equipment ordered was delayed because they were hoping to have it up and running by the season premier week. He told me that he will let me know once the have the equipment and a timeline as to when it will be installed.

It's good to finally have a place online again for us Columbus HD people. Now it's time to start contacting people again to get them all back here. Did anything survive after the hackers at .org? It would be great if we could get the email list of members.

Does this explain why I can not receive WWHO-DT? I have it on channel 46 and trying to adjust the antenna and I get nothing. I just got my OTA HD box a couple days ago and this is the only channel I do not get.

Any further info on when WWHO will have true HD up and running again?

The signal is still up, just not in HD. I believe its also weaker because I know of people who can't get it anymore even though they used to. I do still get it, though.

Yeah, I get the signal just fine, but it's not HD like you said. Just wondering when they're going to get that back up and running.
Looks like their webpage is up. Maybe if everyone who viewed this thread e-mailed them, they'd make getting HD back on a priority.
From their contact page (http://www.wwhotv.com/page1006.cfm),
Email: upn53@wwhotv.com
Director of Programming: Lance.Carwile@wwhotv.com
Chief Engineer: Mark.Seekins@wwhotv.com
Even if they claim it'll be back soon, I'm of the "it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease" mentality. If the few HD viewers out there aren't vocal about it, they'll think we don't exist. . .

Just e-mailed Mark Seekins. If I actually get a reply, I'll let him know about this forum. Would be cool if he participated.

There's a link on www.wsyx6.com called HDTV/Broadcast Signal Questions. Clicking on it opens up an e-mail window addressed to rshepher@wsyx6.com. I'm sending an e-mail asking about all the audio drop outs. I also asked if they would like to have an engineer join these forums to answer questions regarding WTTE / WSYX. Can't hurt, so we'll see what happens.

Strange. Smallville was still in SD on Thursday night.
I received a reply pretty quickly from Mark Seekins @ WWHO. He said they were still working on getting the HD stuff back up and running. I replied back and asked him to stop by the forums when he has time.

So, WB programming will be in HD as well? That's good to hear....I watch so little of the UPN programming, that I didn't realize that they were doing The WB in HD for a technical reason....
Though I no longer receive UPN. Because of the angles....I can either shoot for PBS or UPN and generally get the others. Since there was no HD on UPN and I wanted to record something from PBS a couple weeks ago....that's how my antenna is pointed now.
Though I noticed last night that I hadn't had any ABC for a while....don't know if that's because there was a power outage last Friday, and the box forgot where ABC is or if there's a problem with ABC itself. (Since FOX is coming in fine, I can't see it as being a problem antenna pointing.)

So, it is the 14th of November. Is Smallville in SD or HD...I have direct TV and use a Panny HD projector. This entire season the picture for Smallville is cropped within my screen. Now it is still 16/9 but smaller within the screen. Is this because it is an upconvert. Pic looks good, not great HD but preety good. No, better than pretty good. What is the status?? Thanks. Didnt know this board was running till today!!

From what I've seen, UPN shows are being broadcast on WWHO in true HD now. WB shows (Supernatural, Smallville, etc.) are still shown in SD on the HD channel.

Yes, just got an email from the station. Something having to do with moving equipment to Indiana....not really sure but they say they are working on it.....
So, is it out again? Everyone Hates Chris was in SD this week. I think the two before were in HD. And I think I've only seen the Sunday rebroadcast of Veronica Mars in HD once this season (while I think I saw every rebroadcast in HD last season).
My e-mail was ignored. Anyone else have any info?

I e-mailed Mark Seekins, the lead engineer at WWHO again. He responded to my last e-mail pretty quickly. Hopefully he has a date as to when everything will be broadcast in HD again.

Here's the reply I got back from Mark:
Hello Joe,
We are broadcasting most UPN shows in HD during prime time. Our parent company, LIN Broadcasting, has a large central operations center in Indianapolis and we are waiting for them to get the needed equipment in place to time-shift WB HD programming which will then be sent to us via fiber.
We are hoping to get this completed soon, thank you for your continued patience.

It's nice to be able to get straight answers on this stuff from someone in the know. Now if we could only get someone from WSYX/WTTE to respond to issues... (Not holding my breath)

Anybody have an update on this? Smallville is still in SD, so I'm assuming things are still not working properly.

I called Ch. 53 2 weeks ago. I got the same answer posted above for October 2005, i.e., WB shows, in not being aired at their regular times, can not be aired in HD due to needed equipment not being in place in Indianapolis. While this issue should later be moot with the impending merger of UPN and WB, it would be nice if Ch. 53 could get this resolved already. It's discouraging that the answer I received was the same that others received months ago. No progress, I guess.

I have very little faith that this will be fixed before UPN & WB merge into CW this fall. Only a couple more months until the season ends.
