I had DTV installed back in May, along with an HR20-700s. At the time I got all of the HD channels they provided in their initial offer. Around August, we dropped SkineMAX (uh, CineMAX), as there was little offered there that we cared to keep. We kept all of the other HD offerings (we pay around $80/month).
Then, in October or November, I believe, I began receiving the additional HD channels they fired up, including HDNet Movies, Smithsonian HD, MGMHD, etc.
Around Christmas time, I noticed that HDNet Movies, Smithsonian HD, and a couple of other HD channels began giving me "771 errors" (you don't receive these channels anymore, basically). Thinking it had to do with bad weather, I just let it pass.
A few weeks later, I tried Smithsonian HD again, and it still gave a 771 error. I thought it might be the B-Band converter issue, so I swapped my converters between the two satellite RF ports on the back of the HR20. This didn't change anything.
I called DirecTV and asked them to check out why I wasn't getting these channels any more. The CSR told me that there were 5 channels (including the three I listed, I don't remember the other two) that were "Full-Time HD" and that they had been added to a special group that would cost $5/month extra. I explained that I thought this was somewhat shady, as I was under the impression I was getting the full HD pack, and now they were changing the rules of the game.
The upshot of this is that the CSR offered me the 5 HD channels for free for the next 3 months, after which time they would be disabled unless I signed up for the additional $5/month fee.
Has anyone else run into this?
