No news is bad news.
If TWC feels it's loosing people to satellite (or WOW) because of this then we might see them attempt to pay Sinclair. Right now I'd have to say it's Sinclair's fault though. They want money for retransmission rights but at the same time they promote the fact that you can get HDTV over the air for free. All TWC has to do is get new cable boxes that have ASTC tuners in them so (like satellite) we can pull in the locals in HD.
We're more likely going to get ABC/FOX in HD if the government steps up and mandates local stations allow the retransmission of their DTV signals. If there wasn't a law that they had to allow analog transmission on cable then I'd bet a dollar that they'd be trying to force cable companies & OTA viewers to pay them.
if you ask me, its TWs fault. If other companies can agree with Sinclair, so can TW.
Where is Comcast when you need them.....

You would think so at first but then you learn that the other local cable companies didn't actually pay sinclair for it. Sinclair let Insight ( and I thnk WOW) have their digital signals for free basically as a leveraging tool against Time Warner. Sinclair didn't care about giving HDTV away free to those companies because they're so small. They hope the pressure will force TimeWarner to cough up the money. More money from Time Warner because they're a bigger cable company.
I personally feel if there's a law that states cable companies have to allow retransmission of the analog channels then it's only a matter of time till the govt. makes a requirement that the digital signals are retransmitted (at least by 2009).

The other thing that would suggest that the government might step in concerns those of us who can not get Sinclair's signals OTA. I might need a 100 foot tall antenna down here in Athens to get anything. Without cable we would have nothing [and this is where cable originated]. We may be a small part of the market but Sinclair's argument that it is available over the air does not work down here.
