My sub bit the big one last night. Anyone have any recomendations? I am looking at the Polk PSW12 and the Infinity PS12, but have not bought a sub for 5 years, so any input would be welcome. Does anyone use these now?

I've always been a fan of Velodyne subs. I picked one up off eBay a number of years ago and it's been rocking the house quite well ever since.

Which velodyne model do you use? I was looking at the infinity PS12 and a Polk 12 in sub too. Velodyne has always been of interest too

What kind of price and size are you looking for? Does it have to be small or cheap? Do you favor overall sound quality or output? Does it have to be available locally or can you order online?

wanted to keep it under 400 preferably. I was looking at the Velodyne DPS-12 and VRP-1200 I want a 12" preferably, I like deep chair rumbling bass. I like local, but realize I might be better off with something online, although local I may try and return and I will not have that option online. I am totally open to anyone input, and would like to hear what people have tried and like.

I would look at some of the smaller name ones from the net. You can get better quality for less without the name. Any of these models will outrun most anything you'll get in your local Circuit City or Best Buy including Infinity or Velodyne. Don't get me wrong, I like both of those brands, but these subs will get you alot more for your money.

I'll start with this one, though it's a bit above your budget. It is the Rava II. I have the first version, and it's excellent. It's a sealed enclosure, which is rare for a home sub now because it requires more power, but it's sound quality is better because of it. I picked this one because the sealed design keeps up with my Logans better. http://www.adireaudio.com/Home/Rava.htm

Next, I'd look at HSU and SVS. They are both known for their high output subs and have some models in your price range. The SVS PB12-ISD cost's only $50 more than the Velodyne DPS-12, and although I haven't heard them both I would bet money the SVS would blow it away. They use very high quality materials and it has almost double the power.

Move up a couple hundred and you can get an SVS 25-31PC-Plus, rated at 525 watts. This thing will shake your whole room.

I guarantee you would be happy with any of those options. If you, or anyone else, wants to hear the Rava in my setup feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail. I'm sure I could demo a DVD or CD that would satisfy. :D

So I had an engineer look at my amp, the thought about it for a bit and had a few ideas about how to fix it. He ended up removing all of the caps off the board and replacing them with new ones rated for higher temps. I got it back and installed it last night, and it shounds better than before. Everything seems to be working fine now. Now I am researching new speakers that I can use in the old enclosure. I am thinking maybe I can put a new speaker in it and I will have a brand new sub. I just need to research what speaker will work with the volume I have in my existing enclosure. Wooo Hoo!

He is a friend that my office has contracted to do electrical work. Usually he works on fire alarm system, but he is pretty good with everything. I got him to check it out because I was going to throw it away, and start over. I also had the complete schematics for the amp. I can ask him if he know anyone who specializes in amps. He is really in to audio equip, and he even sends his stuff in for repair. I think he helped me out because the alternative for me was the trash can. Just happened to work.

He told me to try a place that was called Stereo Lab at Indianola and High, they may have changed their name. Or Needle in a Hay Stack.
