I know earlier when I was inquiring, that you needed 2 separate cable lines run to the HD DVR in order to record 2 show at the same time. Is this sadly still the case? Is it possible that my install guys could show up with the SWM (single wire multiswitch?) that could allow me to use just one cable to the box?

Just curious how far off this wonderswitch might be. I hate to have them put in a whole new cable line (and I'm sure it won't be great craftsmanship) if a simpler solution is around the corner.

Thanks

I haven't heard anything about that even being in the works. Most systems still require two lines, so why not just install you're own second line? How many DVR boxes you want to run? If only one, just run you're own second line to it from the basement where the multiswitch would go and the installer can just hook into it there. Otherwise, I don't see anything changing anytime soon.

I did speak to a Directv Rep a few weeks ago and they said that they would have the single line available soon. I would check with them about when it will be available.

From info I've seen on http://www.satelliteguys.us a Single Wire Multiswitch solution has been in beta test in specific markets for a few months. No specific production rollout date has been mentioned but the general concensus is an SWM for D* DVRs will be available sometime early next year.

Thanks for all the answers. The installer said the same thing. They've been having "issues" with the SWM so they have no firm date (if ever) of when it will be released. I just had him add a line around the house.

Enjoying the sevice so far :) I didn't realize how big the dish would be though. Its under the 1 meter diameter rule for my subdivision, but I had to put it on a pole for an additional $50. (I'm also not allowed to mount on my roof in my neighborhood). I guess i was maybe supposed to get OK from my home owners association, but too late now.

Hopefully nobody complains that I look like I'm contacting NASA from my back yard :)

I just can't wait to turn all my stuff in to Time Warner on Monday and CANCEL service! It will be a sweet feeling.
