A scan of the March 2006 issue of Official Xbox Magazine reveals "that a DirecTV blade might be added to your Xbox 360 Dashboard to accompany the Xbox Live, Games, Media, and System blades.

That could be really sweet if done right. It doesn't specify what exactly it would do, though, unless I missed it.

I looks as though the new blade would enable you download On-Demand-type HDTV content--and perhaps connect to any networked DirecTV PVRs to enable video streaming (the new DirecTV PVR, I'm assuming). Reading the replies to that article I'm in agreement that something would need to be done about the download speeds. My 360 is connected directly to my router and to grab demos and movie previews is still painfully slow (AND you CAN NOT do anything else while the box is downloading--another peave of mine).

yeah, not being able to do anything else while it downloads is definitely a peave of mine as well. They should have another area, or even a whole blade, for downloads. It would show recent and current downloads. This way you could always check up on whats going on at any time. Actually, it would be even better if it was in the personal menu that comes up when you hit the xbox button. This way you can even check it while playing a game or movie without exiting out.

Engadget is running a similar article here (http://hdtv.engadget.com/2006/02/17/directv-blade-to-bring-hd-tv-and-flicks-to-xbox-360-dashboard/).

They also posted a pic of the article ran in OXM:
