I posted a couple weeks ago about my continuing problems with the new HD DVR from Time Warner.

I picked up an old DVR from the local office on Friday because the new DVR won't record ANYTHING and I can't rewind or pause live TV. I was tired of missing TV.

I brought the "new" DVR home and hooked it up with an S-Video cable. After it booted up, it only picked up channels 2-13 and no on-screen guide or On Demand, etc. So I picked up the phone and speed dialed TW (yeah, I've been calling a lot) and the tech told me that they don't support S-video and that's what my problem was. That sounded ridiculous to me since I WAS seeing SOME channels and the banner at the bottom of the screen, just not the way it was supposed to be working. I unhooked the S-video and used the regular RCA video cable, and of course, it didn't solve my problem.

A tech came out the next day and said there was a software loading problem with the DVR I picked up the day before, and since he doesn't carry the old boxes on his truck, he would have to give me another new HD DVR. So now I have a 4th HD box that hasn't recorded anything since he hooked it up yesterday.

While the technician was here, I gave him an in-service on the cable service TW provides. He told me I would only receive the local broadcast channels in HD: NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, the CW and PBS. Once the box booted up, I showed him that TW offers a lot more than just those channels. He was surprised that they offer so many without charging extra. Then he told me we would be receiving TBS HD sometime soon. So I explained to him that we already have it, it's just on channel 752 and says SportsNet Ohio instead of 759 like it's supposed to be.

I guess it's not his fault that TW doesn't offer more information to their technicians. I do have to give him props because I think he was probably one of the friendliest guys to come here and he didn't leave my house smelling like cigarettes and BO after he left.

Maybe I should work for TW? :D
