OK, I have a Dell 24" wide screen hooked to a Dell Dimension E520 in the home office. Just for the heck of it I got a Samsung SIR-T151 Set Top Box reciever to hook up to he monitor to watch TV. The problem is how do I get audio. I don't want to get an audio receiver because space is starting to become limited. I am hoping with all the knowelge from the members I can get a quick and easy solution.

You could use the line-in inputs on your Dell's sound card. Get a rat-shack line-in/out cable that splits to RCA audio (female).

Essentially, you slap a standard (male, both ends) RCA cable in the audio-outs of Sammy, plug those into the female ends of the y-splitter, and plug the single end into your line-in input.

I've done this many times, and it works in the reverse as well (audio out from the PC to a receiver).

I was thinking along the same lines as I've also used those adapters coming out of the PC for that. Basically the sound will go through your computer and out it's speakers. Another option is using the adapter and plugging it either straight into the computer speakers, or if the speakers have one, an aux input on them.

Couple things to try.
1. PC is turned on.
2. Plugged into correct input and it is correctly cofigured as a line-in input
3. Line-In input volume is turned up on PC (Windows sometimes mutes it by default).
4. Main PC volume and speaker volume are turned up.

I believe I have it in the correct input, but I can't figure the line-in volume or if it is configured correctly. I have this new Vista operating system and thing are harder to find and understand.

Go to the control panel. Then go to "Hardware and Sound" > "Sound". In there, click on the top icon in the window (mine says speakers) and click properties below it. From there, click on the "levels" tab where it lists all the sound card inputs and their levels.

I have done all of that. Still no sound. I think I have a bigger problem with this. I hook up an old vcr and played a tape and no sound passed thru, so I know its not the reciever. I think I am going to call Dell and ask what the F$#@
