How do I run diagnostic mode on my TW HD Box?

Which box do you have? Usually it's as simple as holding down the diamond button and the enter button on the front of the unit for about 3 or 5 seconds. Then a little "DIAG" pops up on the front of the box.

I have the SA 8300 HD DVR box.

it appears that by pressing select and exit on the box, I can access the diagnostic mode. But I can't seem to figure out how to tune to a specific channel to verify its presence.

After the "diag" shows up on the screen on the front of the box, make sure to hit the select and exit buttons again simultaneously to enter the diag mode. From there, just simply punch in the channel number on your remote and you can check out whatever you want.

Are you able to comment on the analog channels being sent down under QAM? I'd really love to have the channels in SDTV that I've been watching in analog. Even more so on my PVR so I can record stuff that looks better. It's hard watching the Sci-fi channel with all that grain.

Below is a list of the analog channels on Time Warner and their QAM equivalent. You can also get them on a cable box in diag mode on channel 13xx, where xx is the analog channel number.

Notice that they're cramming 12 digital channels into one analog channel. They are only using the bandwidth of 7 analog channels for all 74 channels. That is a lot of compression. I live in an area where cable reception is poor because of underground cables, so it is still an improvement for me.

I looked at the QAM channels and they look much better than the analog. Hopefully we see these soon. The ABC and travel channel are two that normally look unwatchable, but look pretty good as digitals.

Using my internal qam tuner in my 57H93 Tv, it tells me these channels are encrypted. I hgave not tried diag mode to get them yet.....

Can you setup a manual recording using a diag mode channel.

Is this working for anyone anymore?

I used to be able to hold down Select & Exit to get into Diag but now it doesn't work and about 10 minutes after I try, the whole box reboots.
