Scott: Comparing the stickies for Insight and TW. Insight sticky lists WOSU-Ohio on 765 and WOSU-Plus on 766. That's ok. However, TW also has those channels althought they are not currently in the TW sticky. WOSU-Ohio is on 96 and WOSU-Plus is on 99. In addition TW carries WCMH-WX Plus on 80.

The channel lineup for Columbus, lots more HD. I have seen that other markets are getting NFL HD on Thanksgiving but apparently all the new HD channels are coming to us on December 18th. Better late than never.

Any word on whether or not these channels will be part of the standard package, the HD-pack or an additional fee from Insight?

Call in and tell the CSR you want to see it added. The more people that ask for it, the more likely it will get added

I asked this question on the WOW thread but thought it might be more appropriate here. If you have regular 70-channel analog cable through Insight, do they send the local HD channels through like WOW does?
If so, then an Olevia TV I was trying to program for my brother over Christmas doesn't pick them up. Is programming them manually the solution?

Thanks for that link, I put in my Mojo request (from my post above). Although, the most interesting question on there is question #2 - 'would you lose 2 SD channels to get 1 HD channel?' as I think they are asking (albeit very indirectly) about Switched Digital Video. If they move to a SDV setup, anyone with a Tivo Series 3 or TivoHD can kiss those channels goodbye as they don't (currently) handle SDV. There has been talk of a dongle that the cable companies would provide (a USB like device) that would plug into DVR's that would allow those devices to be able to access SDV channels but let's face it, I can't even get a 2-way cable card, what are the chances of this dongle being available any time soon?

There's some sort of give-away/sweepstakes for a 15" HDTV.
The new channels will be Cinemax, Starz, Science Channel, A&E, History, STO (launcing in April)
Other changes are free HD movies on Demand, more OnDemand, an OnDemand indicator, and a change from Music Choice to Urge.

I'm impressed (they're using an open source Ajax widget written in jQuery for the form) :D
I wonder what the aspect ratio is on that bad boy. It looks 4:3 to me?

So... my girlfriend and I are moving into an apartment together (wooo!)... and the location only has Insight as a provider (/sigh)..
I've had Time Warner for a few years now, absolutely love it, and aside from the new member deals i'll be getting w/ insight, i'm sort of dreading the switch.
I currently have an external hard drive plugged into my time warner sa8300hd box... tripling my dvr capacity.
Can anyone give me any information as to the model number i'd be getting from insight? I believe it's a motorola, but i'm not sure what the current two tuner HD dvr boxes are that they give out. I want to research it and find out if i'll still be able to plug in my external hard drive.
If I can't plug it in... i wonder if insight would be pissed if i completely removed their hard drive, made an image of it using PQDI or Ghost imaging software, and then put that image onto a bigger hard drive... I know PQDI can resize partitions when doing something like that.
How is Insight's HD in general? The guide? I'm a huge fan of time warner. i'm scared for sure!

You will probably get the motorola dch6416 which comes with a usb port but it is not activated so you are stuck with what they give you. Not sure whether or not you would be able to make an image of the hard drive but it is worth looking into. I know in some boxes that works. Just removing the hard drive and putting another one in will not work though because the stb is programmed only to recognize a hard drive space of 160gb.
Lately I've given up on using my box for any HD channels I can pick up on my QAM tuner because Motorola boxes scale horribly. There is no native pass thru when it comes to displaying a native resolution so you either have to choose 720p or 1080i and you have to get into the menu to do that by turning off your TV. So basically if you want to go from watching CBS (1080) to ABC (720) you have to change the settings. Horrible.

Is that a DVR that uses a cable card? i believe time warner has those if i were to ever swap out my sa8300hd for a... 8300hdc?
that motorola you mentioned has an eSata port on the back of it... that could maybe work for external hard drives?
aaronod
04-29-2009, 05:11 PM
The esata is disabled as well. Insight doesn't care to enable them either. Yes, it is cablecard ready if I remember correctly.

I emailed Insight a few days ago asking what box I would receive if I was a new customer in August... no response yet.
I mentioned in the email how 160gb is not enough for an HD DVR, that I currently expand my sa8300HD via the eSata port... and asked of the possibilities of receiving a motorola DCX3400, the new multiroom capable DVR's motorola has been rolling out late last year/early this year.
From what i've read on the internet, some Comcast subscribers in various US cities are starting to receive the DCX3400 as of April 2009... I wonder when Insight will jump on board.

05-01-2009, 05:50 PM
I wouldn't hold my breath on the DCX3400. Everyone wants one but most cable companies are not rolling then out until they absolutely have to. I doubt Insight will do it anytime soon. Tell us if you hear anything to the contrary though.

I'm signing my new lease today woo!
I called insight one last time before i inevitably am forced to sign up for their service...
The lady on the phone says she knows of no plans for columbus to be getting the dcx3400 anytime soon, and she said that the current HD dvr that they roll out to people is...
DCT-6700
which i can find no information about whatsoever on the internets.

I received my Insight cable bill today that noted more HD channels being added in July. For customers with digital choice they will receive CBS College Sports HD and Encore HD. Customers that have digital standard will get Lifetime Movie Network HD, Disney XD HD, Outdoor Channel HD, and BIO HD. Customers that have classic service will receive Lifetime HD. There is also mention of "even more" channels being added in July but there is no mention of which channels. I hope we get E!, MSNBC, and Comedy Central but I'm not holding my breath. Why are we getting the channels no one watches instead of the good stuff?
