So I finally broke down and got a HD DVR box from Adelphia the moto dct6412. If you want more info: http://broadband.motorola.com/dvr/dct6412.asp

Now about my experience. I have basic cable. All I wanted was broadcast HD channels, in adelphialand that means NBC, CBS and PBS. easy right? no. I went into the local office (Newark) and picked up the box. I walked out with no problem with my new box. I went home and hooked it up. It was not provisioned right. It had HBO, and Shotime and Digital cable. I called as I did not want to be billed. They reprovisioned it online. Yeah!. Now I get NBC and CBS, no PBS. Time to call again. I had a few more initial problems mostly reguarding the remote. When the box is off and a scheduled recording starts, it turns it self on and mutes the audio. Gurr this is annoying. So I have to unmute it if I want to watch the recording to switch to #2 tuner. Not a great experience. I have found lots of support from online forums for comcast customers using this box though. Is anyone else using Adelphia out of newark? I know that we will be come Time Warner somtime after Jan '06. Does anyone have any more info. Maybe things will get better then.

My parents are in Granville. I didn't know that Adelphia had an option for HD. I might have to look into that for them. If they merge with Time Warner it'll be easier for me to work with since that's what I have here in Columbus. Time Warner is pretty good about giving away the OTA channels for free (minus cable box cost).

The DVR box is 12 and change a month, and that gives me nbc cbs, and I am supposed to have pbs. I also have espnhd, not sure about that, I don't think I am supposed to have it. I did the DVR ubstead of the non-dvr hd box because this one did not involve having a tech come out. So far I have been happy, the quality is good, my family in Mentor, Oh (NE ohio) have comcast, and the quality is not great. They use more compression, and where there is lots of change on the screen, there is heavy pixelation. I am not sure when adelphia will merge with TW, but I assume after the new year, I have heard march-june '06. I asked at the local office when I picked up the box but they were not going to give an approx. time. Bummer. When it goes to tw, I suppose I will get the UPN/WB channel.
