I need recommendations for repair shops or persons for my Hitachi 51SWX20B RP TV. Wouldn't you know it...my extended warranty from CC expired 09/01/06. Saturday morning I am watching TV and suddenly I lose convergence on my green gun. The red and blue still OK but the green bows in on the top and bottom center. I suspect convergence board went bad, but could be gun I suppose. Any recommendations for local shops or persons to do this repair? According to Hitachi's website, there are 3 authorized shops locally. Electra-Sound, Thompson Electronics, and The TV Shop. Any good or bad comments about these places?

might almost be a better option to move on to 1080p.....

I had actually planned to buy probably a 1080P set for the bedroom in the near future. Planned to keep the Hitachi in the living room for another year or two...so need to get it fixed. Depending upon repair costs, may not be able to afford the set for the bedroom now.

I used a place called KMT (they are in the phone book) in the Mill Run Shopping area. They had my TV repair in one afternoon for a good price. I saw all kinds of older model HDTVs in his shop. I think they pick up too.

Thanks for the KMT recommendation guys, but came just a shade too late. I had already called a place out of Canal Winchester Monday morning (I forget the name right now...it is written on a piece of paper at home) and they are coming Friday morning to take a look. They were listed as a Hitachi authorized service center on the Hitachi website. They were available to come Wednesday, but I asked them to come Friday as I could be home then.

Looked at the paper and got the name of the place coming to service my set. Anyone heard any good or bad things about this place?

Yahoo...I have been repaired...and would definitely recommend these guys. They are factory certified for many different manufacturers. And, they do component level vs board level repair when able. As it turned out, had a couple IC's gone bad. Convergence IC's. He replaced them with a known stronger version. Seems the original chips were a weaker chip that has been known to fail after a few years.
