Just got off the phone with Insight Communications. I have been subscriber for many years and have had HD (and required digital channels) for past four or five years. Although I had read their recent letters and other correspondence about the Digital 2.0 changes, I could not get the three new HD channel offerings (TNT, ESPN2,MTV). I just learned that although I pay $140 per month for my cable service( includes RoadRunner), I will be charged more for three more HD channels. Will they now charge more every time they add an HD channel? What's worse, most of the current HD offerings get little or no use due to lack of interesting programming. I can get WOW in my area. Is it time to switch?

Dish TV is pretty popular right now for the HD offerings. If you're interested in switching let me know and I can get you my referral code. :)

Since AT&T owns part of Echostar I went through them. I cut RoadRunner also in favor of AT&T's DSL service. I needed something that was more reliable than the cable modem at home since I recently set up a web server. I never had a local phone but that was needed for DSL and for the satellite service to call back (or else they charge $5 extra a month). Now my total bill is $10 less per month than when I had everything through Time Warner and I have a local phone as a bonus.

So how was the dinner at Outback from my referral?

I've recently had a friend switch to AT&T for Dish, phone & DSL using my referral code so I'm looking forward to that extra bonus. Plus my parents and possibly my sister will be getting Dish so I should be able to snag that referral also.

I don't have a SUPER secret...

OK, I ranted. Now I have to give Insight credit. After three days, the new HD channels appeared. Guess it was one of those cases where the top eschelon had not provided workers with the proper info. I have always received great response and service from the Insight employees. Note: the one new HD channel I thought I would not be interested in was MHD. To the contrary, it is great. Concerts, PQ, sound and music are all great. Thanks to all those who gave alternatives in my hour of misery. I'm really happy again.

I'm glad to have the new HD channels, but I am still peeved about the pathetically small storage capability of the HD DVR. I called about a month ago and the CSR told me that they had just had a meeting regarding increasing storage capability, but there were no time tables or specifics. I asked if it would require swapping out the entire device, or if it was going to be external storage, and she had no idea. As is, I'm thinking about dropping all of my movie channels since I can't store them long enough to watch...
