ABC 3:30 regional games for Saturday October 28:
- Minnesota at Ohio State
- Nebraska at Oklahoma State
- Miami at Georgia Tech OR Florida State at Maryland (6 day selection)

No word yet on HD coverage, but it doesn't look good. The ACC game will probably be carried in New York, which has been the HD game most of the time. Plus, the ACC game that is not on at 3:30 will be a night game on ESPN or ESPN2, so the HD trucks are headed there anyway. I hope I'm wrong.

There is a noon regional game on ABC for the next two weeks instead of a prime time game. That is probably because the World Series also airs on those nights.

Well, I'm glad I was wrong. Minnesota at Ohio State will be the ABC 3:30 HD game. They announced it during the Iowa at Michigan game.

Big Ten televised games for Saturday November 4:

Penn State at Wisconsin (ABC) 12:00

Ball State at Michigan (ESPNU) 12:00
Ohio State at Illinois (ESPN2-HD) 3:30

I think they actually just indicated it would be on ABC - not necessarily in HD. And if

is to be believed, it looks like ABC has decided that the Miami-GT game is the one to get the HD treatment.

It would be a shame to get passed over this week. I saw the same thing Pat did which was a plug for this weeks game saying it would be on ABC HD.

52% of the country is getting the game but no HD. There must be some other factor in play.

Looking at the map, it's surprising it's not in HD considering the game is being carried in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, and a bunch of other large markets.

Yeap, there is. The OSU/Minnesota game isn't as attractive as the Miami/GT game (Minnesota did almost lose to a D1AA school last week).

Plus, Miami has been in the spot(low)light lately because of on-the-field schennanigans. All of the thugs that should have been banned for the season are returing for this game (they sat out for Duke, whoopee). They'll simply have more to talk about...

I can't disagree that Miami at Georgia Tech has the potential to be a more attractive game to a neutral fan. If it was that attractive, however, then why is it being shown to only 27% of the country while Ohio State is being shown to 52%, including the "Atlantic Coast" cities of Boston, New York and Philadelphia?

My guess is they are "spreading the HD wealth around" a little. They have already shown the Big Ten in HD at 3:30 three times this year, while they have featured only one conference game each from the Pac-10, ACC, and Big XII. (The others were pre-season interconference games.) Ohio State-Michigan will probably be the fourth Big Ten game.

Another reason was one of the ACC games was going to be at 3:30, and the other ACC game was going to be on ESPN2, which is always HD. This was a "6 day" pick, so it was only decided 3 days ago. They probably have to order the HD truck farther in advance than that, so they just ordered HD for both sites and decided which one was on ABC later.

Finally, Ohio State has also been blowing out their opponents in the last few weeks. 51 of those 52 percent (we being the other 1 percent) will probably be switching to Miami at Georgia Tech in the fourth quarter anyway.

You are both right. And that's why it makes no sense. Until Nov 18th OSU does not play a game worth a high profile broadcast. When USC was dominant I wasn't going watch them play Washington State. I will take a good game over a blowout any day. HOWEVER, this team is so much fun to watch that they defy that arguement to some extent. I watch OSU games this season because when you have a fine vintage you want to savor it as much as possible. Blowouts are one thing but Troy Smith is someone I want to watch develop every play, every week. But even he's usually off the field for the last 10-15 minutes.

52% of the country including all top markets usually means HD gets preference. The model for this is CBS NFL coverage which always has to pick and choose. But ABC regional College Football in HD is new this year and may have different priorities such as cost and truck availability(the latter probably not so much). I wouldn't put it past them that the HD sponsor wants to target different parts of the country.

So here's what we want from WSYX. In the event of a Buckeye Blowout slide the game over to 6.2 and light up GT v Miami in HD on 6.1. I'm holding my breath starting.......now.

Well I can tell you this. As growing up and living in Philly for 20 years of my life, there is vurtualy no interest in collegic (sp? ( i know me actualy indicate a spelling mistake) ) sports sans temple basketball when they are hot.

There are a few PSU fans speckeld about, but they are looked at as bizzare creatures. I belive New York is much the same sports, but I am not so shure about Boston.

So while there may be many more viewers, they may just not watch it at all let alone HD

I grew up in Manhattan and the only college sport that got much attention was St Johns Basketball. The college football fans also tend to gather in bars or alumni clubs. I was at Blondie's on West 79th with at least 75-100 other Buckeye fans when Krenzel threw to Jenkins on 4th & 1 to beat Purdue. One of the best times I've ever had watching Buckeye football, a quarter mile from where I grew up.

I called WSYX about my idea after I posted but it's still ringing.

Watch it as many times as you like. I get a kick out of the senile old fart on the Purdue sidelines yelling at MJ. Requires quicktime.

Watching the upconverted program recorded on my TiVo was really painful, especially the wide shots. I was in the stadium, and while the field is in rough shape, it isn't as bad as the broadcast made it look.
