Is wwho a local on the MPEG4 receivers? Gonna switch over but don't want to lose the OTA for the time being if it's not. Also, how do the locals look on the new receiver or DVR compared to OTA? Thanks!! J

The H20 has a great OTA capability better than the old receivers I had before.

That is what I have heard. But, I have to have my Tivo or sadly in this case, my new DVR, then I will make the switch. I want to get Smallville in HD, kids like that show...ok...so do I. I mean come on guys, Lois, Lana, what 46 year old red blooded american doesn't want to see them?

Maybe if Directv released the new hardware with everything working people would be more apt to switch boxes. Personally I am sick of shelling out money for the latest greatest gear from them only to have a half assed product. The hd10 250 is a prime example, they never activated features that were built into the unit. And we all paid upwards of $1000.00 to get that box at its release. Now with the rollout of the new dvr they are finally sending updates to the 10 250 to speed it up, way too late for me. I got rid of mine while I could still get something out of it and switched to Dish. Come on Directv, why the heck would you release this dvr without turning on the ota tuner? Brainless.

I have had the HR20-700S since the beginning of September. There are some quirks, but overall it seems to be pretty solid. The picture quality is very good. The HD pic quality is very good, but it will never be as good as OTA pic quality due to the signal compression in satellite/cable equipment. It is just a fact that the more connections/equipment in between the programming signal and the TV monitor will cause picture degradation. If you want to be cutting edge or the first on the block to have something there are tradeoffs (i.e. high price/bugs to work out, poor quality control/companies competing for top dollar by rushing products to market to please board members/stock holders). Just remember what our TV quality was like when we were converting from OTA to cable TV in the late 70s, early 80s. HD is in its infancy as far as equipment is concerned.

Just ordered one the new HD DVRs for the new theater room. I'll let everyone know what I think once I get it hooked up.

Well, first off, I can't get the new receivera and dish until November 1st because DirecTV says they have a shortage of the 5 LNB dishes. To add to my ordeal, my HD DirecTIVO has just crashed. They are sending me a replacement on Monday which may be another TIVO or one of the new ones. If they send me the new one, which doesn't work with OTA antennas for now, I'll be out of local High Def until I either get the new dish or they push out the software update enabling it on the new boxes. grrrrrrr.....

It has the green screen that says severe error. It sits there a few minutes, reboots, and then goes back to the green screen.

the dreaded green screen of death.

I would go and look for an image of the 3.1.5f software from ptvupgrades (or i guess i can mail you one via snail mail) and you can boot up in linux with a bottcd image i can get ya and try to reimage the drive. sounds like your hd is hosed though so you may need a new hd as well

I received the new unit today and it is a TIVO unit, so I'm cool. That's good to know though in case something were to happen again and I can't get another.
