This is on the WBNS web site:
----------------------------------------------------------------
WBNS-10TV and ESPN+ present Ohio State versus Indiana on Saturday at Noon. The Tennessee versus Alabama game will be joined in progress. WBNS presents a Buckeye Blitz pre-game special at 11:30.
ESPN Plus does not broadcast this game in HDTV.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't really understand why they stated "ESPN Plus does not broadcast this game in HDTV" until I found out that ESPN-HD is broadcasting the game in HDTV, but blacking it out in Big Ten states.
I wouldn't complain to WBNS about this one. I don't think there is anything they can do about it. It's just a shame ESPN and the Big Ten will not allow ESPN Plus affiliates to carry the ESPN-HD feed.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would they be blacking it out in all Big 10 states? The Wisconsin game last Saturday was broadcast on ESPN HD, but still broadcast in Big 10 states. Sounds like it may just be blacked out locally because WBNS is picking up the game on ESPN+... Which of course will look like it's being broadcast from Mars!

Speaking of blackouts, another thing I've noticed is that the Gameplan games on DirecTV are not blacked out even if they are being broadcast on WBNS...
I did see on ESPN's HD website that the OSU/Indiana game is for "outer markets."
Anyone have an "outer market" HD receiver?

So even the Time Warner channel 721 WBNSDT won't show the game in HD either?

This is the first I've seen this. Normally ESPN shows a different Big Ten game from ESPN Plus and both games are carried.
www.bigten.org states that the game is being carried by "ESPN Plus (inside Big Ten states)" and "ESPN (outside Big Ten states)". It also lists several markets such as Boston, Dallas, and Houston cleared for ESPN Plus, and these are nowhere near Big Ten schools. I wonder if it will be blacked out there also.
Know anybody with an HD box in Athens? It looks like your closest "outer market" is Huntington, West Virginia.

Wow! They totally blacked out ESPN. I didn't see that coming. And of course, the ESPN+ game sounds awful. The good news is that ESPN has the game listed until 3pm... Perhaps we'll catch the last part of the 4th in HD....

Forgot to mention that I'm on DirecTV. I'd be curious to find out what TWC & Insight subs are seeing.

Directv has ESPN blacked out.
Time Warner has Louisville/Cincinnati game on.

I wonder why DirecTV didn't just put that game on. So, this is the game we'll probably see @ 3 when the blackout lifts. I knew all week it was going to be this way, can't say that I'm over it though.

No switch... I think it's ridiculous that DirecTV just shuts off ESPN for paying customers.

I agree, at the very least they should have put on the Louisville/Cincinnati Game (even if I would not watch it) anything would have been nice.
Also I am disappointed that Directv did not put the Miami/Kansas City game on their NFL Game Plan yesterday.

This game will be broadcast on GP tomorrow.
Insight blacked out ESPNHD all together as well. Why would you blackout an HD broadcast of 2 big ten teams in the big ten states? That has to be one of the stupidest things I'd ever heard. And then they claim to show another game in standard def which no one cares about and it's blacked out anyway. If ESPN ever wants viewers to fully embrace HD and buy a new set then they need to stop making ridiculously stupid decisions and actually show the HD games to the people who want to see them.

ESPN did not make the decision, Our local stations bid on the game and won. They are the ones that forced espn to black out the game
Wouldn't it have been possible for them to show the HD feed and still splice in their own advertising rather than show the standard def? or would that have taken too much of their bandwidth on a busy football saturday? or was it that ESPN wouldn't give them the HD rights since the local affiliates bid them out?

Different announcers and it would be technicaly impossible to do what you suggested
