Hey all

great game on Saturday. One thing I noticed is that when the camera panned fast, Maroon SC helmets and gear gets "blurry". Is this just my TV? Is this because red has the lowest wavelength in the visible spectrum? It didn't bother me, but I am kind of curious. Thanks

No I didn't see any red blurr. I thought the picture looked very good.

It's not just your TV, frenchophile. While the pixelization you saw on the NBC broadcast of the USC-Notre Dame game may have been worsened depending on the quality of your equipment, the pixelization is due mainly to the reduced bandwidth WCMH provides its 1080i 14.1 signal broadcast to accomodate its 480i 14.2 weather information broadcast. The more subchannels, the worse the picture quality per subchannel, because there is only such much available bandwidth per digital channel.

If you happened to see the high definition highlights of the Notre Dame-USC game used later that night on ESPNHD, you'd see the pixelization was gone, because the ESPNHD signal is a single, undivided 720p signal. Also, the SEC games on WBNS in 1080i have no pixelization because WBNS has no subchannels.

WOSU is, unfortunately, a very good example of this diminishing picture quality effect of adding subchannels, although thankfully they dropped a subchannel recently. Their main HD channel had been nearly unwatchable before.

OTA was definitely showing multi-cast issues. I went over to my friends who has TWC and it wasn't as apparent.

I didn't notice any red blur; however, the macro blocking was significantly more noticeable on WCMH-DT than the NY HD feed from DirecTV.
