View Full Version : OTA Antenna Help, Hilliard.
I have tried about 8 different antenna's and have had not much luck. The best luck I have had is the 9 dollar RCA rabbit ears. With the exception of channel 4.
I just signed up with Dish, so my receivers are the VIP622 and 211. What I would like to do is have both receivers on 1 antennea in the attic.
I went to Radio Shack today and bought THIS.... (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103091&cp=&pg=5&origkw=antenna&kw=antenna&parentPage=search),
Ran all the wires and all that crap, and the signal is now worse in the attic, with the "better" amplified multidirectional.
Does anyone have a better idea for a OTA antenna in Hilliard? I live off of Scioto Darby. closest is 7miles, and furthest is 15 miles.
I shouldn't be having an issue, but I am.

mace,
I live off of Alton Darby Lakewood diviision. I use an indoor winegard's theSharpshooter SS-3000 antenna with great results. Here is the link http://www.winegard.com/offair/sharpshooter/pdf/SharpShooter_12-08.pdf
Anywhere locally that I could take a look at one? Or would you suggest online?
Particular Retailer or ebay?
What did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

If you would like to pop over to the house and look at it no problem. I had to order online for the best price. around $79, but the results are good.
Well, I spent today undoing what I did the day before and took the Radio Shack antenna back. There are six of those SharpShooters on Ebay right now, and I'm gonna do what I can to snag one to test it out.
You think this can stand the elements in the Attic?

mace and Kevkev. It should be ok because its not exposed to the elements.
Kevkev. Are you getting good results with the Terk HDTVa in the attic?
Hot and Humid are elements :)
Trust me, I was sweating my arse off.
Quick question about the sharpshooter. Does in have an inline power source?

My reception is great. I have a Samsung tuner and it shows that my strength is 9 out of 10 and even 10 out of 10 bars on a few channels. I still dont get PAX tho.

fwiw, i have a $50 radio shack normal, old-style tv antenna in my attic, i run it to a $15 phillips splitter/amplifier in my basement, and then to 2 hd dish tuners. works ok.
Well I got my Sharpshooter off ebay for 50 bucks this week. I have to say that I expected more but.... There is a big ole but...
I did not get any better signal as far as digital strength, BUT I do NOT get the drop outs that I was experiencing with the other 11 OTA's that I bought.
My setup now,
Antenna in the attic connected to a wall plate.
From the Wall Plate to the splitter thingy that comes with the Winegard. 3 connections, power, antenna and TV
From the TV connection, I have it run to a 6DB Distribution amp (ebay 10 bucks)
From there it goes to both HD Receivers.
Working good thus far.

Great to hear mace! That's what the 3000 is suppose to do is get rid of the drop outs. I think it's a very good indoor antenna. Great price for you.
